Provisioning is simply the process of planning, purchasing, organizing, and storing the food, drinks, and everyday supplies we’ll need while living aboard for the week. Unlike a land vacation, there’s no quick run to the grocery store every time someone forgets coffee creamer or decides they suddenly need extra snacks. Good provisioning helps the crew stay fueled, hydrated, comfortable, and focused on sailing.
That said… provisioning doesn’t need to be stressful.
We treat provisioning as part of the learning experience—not just a pre-trip chore. Learning how to thoughtfully provision for a charter is a real-world sailing skill that builds confidence and independence for future trips.
Provisioning costs (groceries, beverages, snacks, shared onboard supplies, etc.) are not included in the price of your trip and are considered a shared crew expense.
As part of learning the realities of chartering and cruising, crews collectively plan and contribute toward provisioning costs. This often includes food, drinks, cooking essentials, and other shared consumables for the week.
